Jeffrey M. Cohen - A Letter From Our CEO

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Cohen is the Founder & CEO of Halt Medical. Prior to founding Halt Medical, Mr. Cohen was Founder, President & CEO of BioSurgical Corporation, where after raising several rounds of financing, obtaining FDA clearance, a CE Mark and 26 issued patents, he completed a sale of the company to Baxter Corporation in 2000. BioSurgical Corporation developed surgical devices designed to apply surgical sealants and other biologic and wound healing agents in a surgical setting. Mr. Cohen was also the Founder, President & CEO of BioInterventional Corporation, where after raising several rounds of financing, obtaining FDA clinical trial approval, a CE Mark and 8 issued patents, he completed a sale of the company to Cardiva Medical in 2002. BioInterventional Corporation developed devices to close the femoral artery after interventional cardiology procedures. Prior to starting his own medical device companies, Mr. Cohen was the Head of Coopers & Lybrand’s West Coast Life Sciences Consulting Practice where his primary consulting clients included: SmithKline Beecham, Glaxo, Genentech, McKesson Drug, Eli Lilly, Merck, Dupont Merck, and Rhone-Poulenc Rorer.


 

 

 

Bruce B. Lee MD

Chief Medical Officer

Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Halt Medical, Inc., Dr. Lee devised the Halt™ procedure in 1999 and has since treated over two thousand fibroid tumors in over 300 patients. He launched Halt Medical, Inc. in 2004 to design, develop and manufacture new instrumentation specifically for radiofrequency ablation of uterine fibroids. Dr. Lee is a Diplomat of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and member of multiple gynecologic societies including AAGL and the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons. He has authored multiple medical publications concerning the Halt™ procedure. Dr. Lee attended the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California and completed his post-graduate training at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.


 

 

Gordon H. Epstein, MD

Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Epstein, Chief Technology Officer and principle designer of the Halt 2000™ System, offers over 13 years experience in medical device development. Prior to his association with Halt, he was the Founder, Chief Technology Officer and Chairman of the Board of BioSurgical Corporation, which was acquired by Baxter, and Founder, CTO and Chairman of BioInterventional Corp, which was acquired by Cardiva Medical. Dr. Epstein is Board Certified in Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and is currently actively practicing Medicine and Surgery. He has authored over 65 issued patents with many others pending. Dr. Epstein earned his MD at U.C. San Francisco and he completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania.


 

 

Russell DeLonzor

President and Chief Operations Officer 

Mr. DeLonzor brings 20 years of experience in the medical device industry to the Halt team. He has held senior management positions in venture-backed start-ups through Fortune 100 corporations. His responsibilities have included the full range of commercialization activities from R&D through mass production. He is a patented inventor, most recently at Sanarus Medical where he pioneered a cutting edge cryosurgical technology targeting breast tumors. He headed the hospital products R&D organization of Tyco Healthcare (now Covidien). He is experienced in mergers/acquisitions, fundraising and reimbursement strategy through his more than 12 years with Nellcor, Puritan Bennett and Mallinckrodt (acquired by Tyco International). He was a founding board member of the Association of Disposable Device Manufacturers. Mr. DeLonzor earned his MBA and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering.


 

 

Laura Kemp

Vice President of Clinical Affairs

Ms. Kemp joined Halt Medical with over 18 years experience in clinical research for medical
device companies. Throughout her career, she has worked primarily with devices relating to gynecology, surgery, urology, orthopedics and interventional radiology. As former Vice President of Clinical Affairs for Ovion, Inc. and Director of Clinical Research following its acquisition by American Medical Systems, Ms. Kemp directed several multi-center international clinical trials. She also planned and oversaw all clinical trial activity at NTERO Surgical, Inc., and InnerDyne, Inc. (prior to the TYCO acquisition). She has consulted for various start-up companies in the Silicon Valley. Ms. Kemp holds both an M.A. and a B.S. in Health Science and an A.S. (R.T.) in Radiologic Technology.


 

 

Rick Spero

Vice President of Research & Development

Mr. Spero brings 36 years of experience in product development and manufacturing engineering, with the past 19 in the healthcare industry. His experience includes product design and project management for high-volume disposables (Nellcor pulse oximeter sensors), lower-volume disposables (Sanarus Cassi breast biopsy device) and capital equipment (Humphrey Instruments Ophthalmic Field Analyzer and Retinal Analyzer). Mr. Spero has participated in multiple medical start-up companies. He has been involved in numerous FDA submissions and is named as inventor or co-inventor on multiple patents.


 

Robert Skidmore
Vice President of Operations and Manufacturing

Mr. Skidmore offers over 27 years in manufacturing and operations experience in Laser, Graphics and Medical Device Manufacturing companies. His medical manufacturing experience (Sunrise Tech, Indigo Medical, Sanarus Medical) has been related to surgical, urology, dental and gynecology. He was instrumental in establishing DFT/JIT technologies into a majority of the companies, substantially reducing the overall cost of devices and capital equipment. Robert is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kenpo Martial Arts, he owns and operates a martial arts school in his home town.
